The significance of submitting a written complaint

One of the responsibilities of the Financial Authority Saint Lucia (FASL) is to safeguard the interests of consumers under the supervision of banks, financial service providers, private insurers, and securities trading. As per clause 4 of the Financial Services Supervision Act (FinDAG), clients have the option to submit their complaints directly to the FASL. It is important to note that complaints must be submitted in written or electronic form via the designated form on the FASL's website. When filing a complaint, it is essential to include factual details and a clear explanation of the reason for the complaint

1st stage

Initially, the Financial Authority Saint Lucia (FASL) will evaluate your case based on the information and documentation you provide to determine if it can be assessed. If further clarification is required, the FASL will seek additional facts by requesting the opinion of the company involved. In many instances, the FASL will forward your complaint letter to the relevant company under its supervision

2nd stage

The company provides a comprehensive report to the Financial Authority Saint Lucia, offering a detailed explanation of the rationale behind its decision

3rd stage

If the audit reveals that the company's decision is deemed acceptable from a supervisory standpoint, the Financial Authority Saint Lucia will inform you of this outcome

4th stage

If it is determined that the Financial Authority Saint Lucia needs to intervene as a supervisory body, it will proceed to handle the matter with the relevant company. However, please note that the Financial Authority Saint Lucia may not be able to disclose the outcome of the dispute to you due to confidentiality obligations

    • Your name and address. If you are complaining about another individual, please provide their name and address as well

    • The name and address of the company you are filing the complaint against

    • If your complaint pertains to an insurance organization, include details such as the type of insurance, insurance certificate number, and, if applicable, claim number

    • If your complaint relates to a credit or financial institution, provide information such as the account type (e.g., deposit account, current account, savings contract), account or customer number, and the name of the organization

    • If your complaint is regarding the purchase of securities, include the identification number of the securities (WKN or ISIN) and the name of the broker's organization
